‘I Know a Hawk From a Hammer’

If you know me, you probably know this is a quote inspired from Hamlet when the Danish Prince is describing how he is not always in the grip of madness and can find his way to reality, though he prefers a “handsaw” to a hammer.

The quote has been on my mind of late and I turn it over in my head from time to time. What an interesting answer to a question and I sometimes answer people asking after my wellbeing with it. I have also taken to dropping other quotes from plays to answer “how’s it going?” or “How are you?”

I like MacBeth’s “I have never seen so foul or fair a day,” as well.

But coming round as I do to my point, I say I know a hawk from a hammer in that I am embarking on a yearlong project to bring forward several projects I have been working diligently on both in writing and painting/illustrating. I am also further developing Chalk Creek Writing Project to further market and support these efforts.

That of course will mean changes to the websites and getting on a better schedule in which to provide info on the coming titles and work.

To be sure, I announce this not lightly. This is not a bit thing, by far, I think, but it is a real thing. It is about living my life as I want it as I see its best beauty. It is as like coming at last to sanity and pursuing the madness of hammering a dream into reality.
